It’s the beginning of a big weekend down in Henderson Harbor and the celebration of Christmas in July started with its first ever car show on Friday

Two dozen drivers brought out their classic cars to show off. Gail Smith helps plan the weekend

“It’s become the deal. It’s the number one deal. It involves all the families in the community and it’s just a fun, fun time,” Smith said.

Gary Bowman brought out a 1953 MGTD, a car he’s kept in good condition for 20 years.

“It’s been a labor of love, I’ve always been involved in English cars,” Bowman said.

Volunteers come together to make this all possible, and this show is the first of its kind on the memorable weekend.

“We’ve never had one and I’ve always thought with these beautiful grounds that we have here,” Christmas in July worker, Susan Vanbenschoten said. “It’s a perfect place to have a car show.”

Drivers from all over bring their cars to this special event.

“It’s great to get out and ride and I know it’s for a good cause so I’m just going to enjoy the day,” driver Randy Dwyer said.

After the car show, heading into the weekend will be a boat decoration and a number of other activities for families to enjoy.
