Hyundai has just launched the facelifted i20 Active in India. Prices start from Rs. 6.99 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi, making it a lot more costlier than the recently launched Ford Freestyle. The top-end trim is priced at Rs. 10 lakhs. The Figo-based Freestyle is India’s lowest priced hatchback-based crossover, which starts from Rs. 5.09 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. The i20 Active Facelift gets minor changes – a contrast paint scheme for the roof, revised alloy wheels, a refreshed center console and a new pattern for the seat upholstery. These changes apart, the 2018 i20 Active Facelift is similar to the version it replaces, and this includes the engine and transmission options.

The facelifted Hyundai i20 Active gets two engine options – a 1.2 litre VTVT petrol motor with 82 Bhp-114 Nm and a 1.4 litre turbocharged diesel engine with 89 Bhp and 220 Nm. While the petrol engine gets a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard, the diesel motor gets a 6 speed manual gearbox.

The facelifted i20 Active continues to retain body cladding on the sides, bumper inserts at the front and the rear, and a high, 190 mm ground clearance. The front wheel driven crossover based hatchback also gets roof rails to give it that extra street presence that makes the vehicle stand out.

Earlier this year, at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo, Hyundai launched the i20 Elite Facelift. The facelifted i20 Elite gets a new front grille, revised front and rear bumpers, a new hatch lid design and an all-new design for the tail lamps. The car shares its petrol and diesel engines with the i20 Active, but will soon get a CVT automatic gearbox on its petrol variant. The car is India’s second best selling premium hatchback in the country, just behind the Maruti Baleno in terms of sales. The i20 Active has been India’s best selling hatchback-based crossover, a title that could come under pressure with the launch of the Ford Freestyle at a highly attractive price tag.
