Bowie ‘got his leg over a lot’

In a social media post on the day of his death David Bowie’s wife said “the struggle is real, but so is God”.

Iman Abdulmajid, who was married to the star for 24 years, has not spoken directly about his death, but posted a series of cryptic tweets at the weekend.

One, which appeared on Saturday, was a picture of text reading: “Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”

The couple have one daughter together, Alexandria Zahra Jones.

Before settling down to marriage with the Somali supermodel in 1992, Bowie is said to have had a colourful and often wild sex life.

He was rumoured to have bedded many partners, both male and female.

In an interview with Jonathan Ross some years ago he avoided answering the question of whether he was gay or bisexual, simply to say: “I just got my leg over a lot.”

He added: “I was incredibly promiscuous and I think we’ll leave it at that.”

Some star names including Oscar winner Susan Sarandon and singer Lulu have said they had dalliances with him.

Sarandon revealed she had dated Bowie around the time they worked on the 1983 British horror film The Hunger.

She described Bowie as “worth idolising” in a 2014 interview with the entertainment website The Daily Beast.

She said: “He’s extraordinary. That was a really interesting period. I wasn’t supposed to have kids, and I’m the oldest of nine and had mothered all of them, so I wasn’t ever in a mode where I was looking to settle down and raise a family, so that definitely changes the gene pool you’re dipping into.”

Bowie was “just a really interesting person, and so bright”, she said adding “he’s a talent and a painter and … he’s great.”

Lulu said her brief, but passionate affair with him began in 1974.

The Scottish singer told Event magazine in 2015: “I had a small window when I was involved with Bowie.

“We were so connected because of the music – it was the personal stuff that was … odd. Some of the conversations we had were insane.

“My mum thought Bowie was the weirdest thing she’d ever seen, and to a mother of course he was.”

She recalled that his thighs were “incredible” adding they were “long and slim but muscly” and they were “not pumped up but really powerful.”

A biography – called Bowie – by Wendy Leigh, claimed the rock star’s many lovers also included Elizabeth Taylor, Bianca Jagger, Marianne Faithfull, and Ola Hudson, mother of Guns ‘N Roses guitarist Slash.

Bowie was married to his first wife, the US model and actress Angie Bowie until 1980. Their son, Zowie, also known as Duncan Jones, was born in May 1970.

She is currently appearing on Channel 5’s Celebrity Big Brother.

On her marriage to Bowie, she told the other housemates: “I got a really bad broken heart when we split up, cause I didn’t have a job … I wasn’t interested in fighting him for custody, I didn’t have a job. When I don’t have a job I get into bad mischief … I was drinking, being barred from bars.”

Channel 5 said she will be informed off camera of her ex-husband’s death.
