BARAGA, Mich. (WLUC) – Baraga State Park is celebrating Christmas a little early. Their annual Christmas in July event is underway. This year marks the 12th anniversary of the park’s unique celebration.

Events included crafts, games, a parade, and singing Christmas carols. Santa claus will even be on hand Saturday. The main event is the campsite decorating contest. Staff at the State Park say it’s a very popular week of events.

“They started doing it in the State Parks in the Lower Peninsula and it caught on, staff enjoys it a lot and our campers do too,” said Kelly Somero, from Baraga State Park. “It’s just another way to really enjoy the outdoors, enjoy the camping season and have a great time.”

Saturday, Santa Claus will be there leading a bike parade. Photos will be available afterwards. At night the campsites will be lit up with decorations and will then be judged.
