Google canceled Project Ara modular smartphone endeavor back in September leaving many developers and potential customers who’ve been looking forward to the project empty handed. Our colleagues at Phandroid have managed to get their hands on a developer edition Project Ara unit with the model number “A8A01″ and they’ve brought us some nice looking images.

The Project Ara (A8A01) smartphone features a Snapdragon 810 chipset with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. At the front, there’s a 5.46” 1080p TFT-LCD display, while on the back the modules it shipped with are a 2.1MP rear camera and a 3,450mAh battery.

The “A8A01” is quite thick and heavy at 12.5mm and 190 grams. It has a whole suite of sensors, though, including GPS, barometer, light, gyroscope, proximity, accelerometer, magnetometer, pressure, and gravity.
